Students participating in the Middlebury School in Italy are automatically enrolled in a study abroad health insurance plan for the duration of the program through GeoBlue International Health Insurance.\u00a0 This coverage is mandatory and cannot be waived.\u00a0 The GeoBlue insurance plan provides up to $250,000 medical coverage (accident\/sickness) with zero deductible.\u00a0 There is also medical evacuation and repatriation coverage.\u00a0 Coverage begins on the first day of your program abroad and ends on the last, with the option to purchase an additional 30 days of coverage by contacting the insurance provider directly.<\/p>\n
Additionally, students are offered the possibility to purchase a secondary health insurance policy once in Italy from an Italian government-sponsored insurance company (INA-ASSITALIA) to supplement the GeoBlue policy.<\/p>\n
The cost of the ASSITALIA policy is about \u20ac50 for six months or about \u20ac100 for one year. This insurance covers only hospital (pronto soccorso<\/em>) care in Italy, but will be convenient if you need urgent tests or surgery. ASSITALIA will cover 100% of emergency expenses. This insurance policy will not cover you when traveling outside of Italy. Enrollment in the ASSITALIA insurance plan is done when you arrive in Italy. Information and forms for the postal money order (c<\/em>onto corrente postale<\/em>) will be available from the School in Italy staff.
