Orientation

The first week of the program is dedicated to several required orientation meetings, during which practical help will be given to help you adjust to your new environment. You will also have a series of personal interviews with the director, devoted primarily to academic matters.

Permit of Stay (Permesso Di Soggiorno): Non-EU Citizens

You will begin the process for requesting a permesso di soggiorno upon your arrival in Italy.  More information will be provided at the on-site orientation. During the first week of the program, the School in Italy staff will help the students through the process of obtaining the permesso.  In the Student Visas section of this handbook, you will find additional information and the list of documents required to complete the application.

Registration at the Municipality (Iscrizione all’Anagrafe): EU Citizens Only

You will begin the process for requesting a residenza 90 days after your arrival in Italy. Since the procedure is different for each municipality, the School in Italy staff will help you through the bureaucratic process of obtaining the residenza. In the Student Visas section of this handbook, you will find the list of documents required to complete the application.

Codice Fiscale (Fiscal/Tax Code)

You are required to have a codice fiscale. During the first week the School in Italy will inform students regarding how to obtain the codice fiscale.

Students may choose to obtain the document on their own once they have arrived in Italy at the Ufficio locale dell’Agenzia delle Entrate (Via Santa Caterina d’Alessandria, 23).  A passport is required to apply for the codice fiscale.

[VERY IMPORTANT]

Students who remain in Italy without a Permit of Stay or a Registration at the Municipality are in violation of Italian law. They cannot be registered with the program, and the School in Italy is not responsible in this situation.
