Placement Exam

Japanese Language Placement testing will be administered during orientation to determine language level. This placement test is mandated by the Japanese Language Program (JLP) at ICU, and Middlebury College will not be able to change the placement once the result is given. Students do not need to prepare for this exam, but we highly recommend that you to review kanji before the placement test because ICU’s Japanese Language Program weighs heavily your ability to read and reproduce kanji characters when placing you in your language class. Some students in the past felt that they were placed “lower” than what they thought they were capable in terms of speaking and listening. Review kanji during your flight to Japan! Please see here for more information about JLP at ICU.
