Currency Exchange
Banks in Argentina are usually open 10:00am-3:00pm Monday-Friday. All ATMs are closed between 3:00pm-4:00pm for maintenance reasons. Banks in Uruguay are usually open from 1:00pm-5:00pm Monday-Friday. Currency exchanges are generally open from 10:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. All banks are closed on national holidays. If it is necessary to exchange money right after arrival, there are banks and/or currency exchange offices at the airports.
It is not safe to use the “dolar blue” agents (either the clandestine offices called “cuevas” or the people offering currency exchange 0n the street or in taxis) since they operate illegally and the risk of getting counterfeit bank notes or being swindled is higher.
