Re-Entry Resources
Before Leaving Argentina or Uruguay
- Make a bucket list of things to do before leaving
- Cancel your phone plan and close any memberships or accounts, including bank accounts (Uruguay students), at least a week prior to departure
- Return any borrowed items or books
- Donate any unwanted items or clothes to charitable associations
- Ship any extra books or items you would like to take back with you
- Go back to all your favorite spots one last time
- Before turning over your keys, review the condition of your room with your host family
- Don’t forget to thank everyone who contributed to your study abroad experience (host family, roommates, mentor, etc.)
- Before leaving, some students have chosen to gift their remaining local currency to their host family’s housekeeper as recognition of the extra work they performed during the student’s stay. If applicable and possible, this is a considerate gesture that is usually well received.
Upon Your Return
- Attend returnee events organized on campus, regionally, or even nationally, such as the Global Student Leadership Summit hosted by Diversity Abroad

- Look for ways to connect with the Spanish-speaking community in your area
- Update your resume with your international experience and your linguistic skills
- Think about your next international or intercultural experience! Contact your International Center, Career Center, and/or Spanish Department about other opportunities to consider
