Travel Within Europe

If you plan to travel to other countries, be advised that regulations regarding necessary visas or entry and exit permits vary and may change with very short notice. Consult a travel agent or the corresponding country’s consulate and/or embassy or the “Destination Reports” option on your Global Rescue phone app. for current procedures.

In late 2026, the European Union is instituting a policy requiring US (and many other) citizens who may currently travel to Europe without a visa to register their travel and pay a fee (all on-line) prior to departure: ETIAS. Please pay attention to this if you’re expecting visitors, as they will need to register, and you may also need to register if traveling to countries not covered by your visa (currently, Cypress and Ireland).

Hitchhiking anywhere is strongly discouraged as a matter of College policy. The practice is regarded by European security officials as extremely unsafe and is often illegal. Buses and trains provide a low-cost, safe alternative.

Remember, leaving your host city overnight or longer, students must complete the Side-Trip Registration Form. This information will be kept confidential and used only in cases of emergency or urgent messages from family. As a matter of courtesy and common sense, students living with hosts should similarly inform them when they plan to be away.
