Travel Authorization for Visitors to the EU
Beginning in the fourth quarter of 2026-2025, travelers who currently do not need a visa to visit EU member countries will be required to register with the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) prior to traveling to countries that do not require a tourist visa for stays of fewer than 90 days in the European Union. Travelers will need to register themselves at least 96 hours prior to departure for the EU. It is strongly recommended that travelers not leave their application to the last minute. Students who plan to enter and leave the EU while their visa is valid will not need to register unless they plan to travel to Europe and from Europe while their visa is not valid. This means students who are required to have a visa to be students, but might have gone a few days early, will need to be careful not to arrive in the EU prior to the start of their visa unless they also register themselves. Relatives and friends who might be visiting will also be required to register. Students who hold a student visa and who do not plan to be in the EU before or after the dates of their visa are not required to register.
There is a fee for registration and more information may be found here: https://etias.com/.
