Middlebury undergraduate students will also be assessed an additional non-refundable study abroad administrative fee per semester. The purpose of the fee is to help offset administrative costs associated with study abroad, including advising, application to and approval by International Programs and Off-Campus Study or the Programs Abroad Committee, assistance with registration and housing while abroad, coordination with and oversight of study abroad programs, and awarding of credit.
Participation in activities, events, and excursions is voluntary; however, non-participation shall not be cause for a refund of any portion of the program fees.
Graduate Students
When studying in France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, and Spain you pay only tuition (this includes health insurance) to Middlebury College. You are responsible for paying for your own room, board, travel, books, and other expenses directly to the provider. In Kazakhstan, if you live in campus dorm housing, or in Italy, if you live in a private residence hall, you pay tuition and housing to Middlebury. There is no reduction in the tuition charge for students who petition and, on rare occasions, are approved to take less than a full course load.

Estimated Out-of-Pocket Expenses
Estimates of out-of-pocket expenses are in addition to the tuition and study abroad administrative fee charged by Middlebury. Figures may vary depending on individual lifestyles and situations as well as variation in exchange rates. For financial aid budgeting purposes, the exchange rates used for the year are posted on the above web pages and cannot be adjusted to account for fluctuating exchange rates.
Please note that the “Personal” figure covers some basic necessities (e.g. local transportation, cell phone, bank fees, some cultural activities, etc.) and does not, and is not, intended to include students’ discretionary spending (e.g., entertainment, fitness, and travel).
