International Driving Permit (IDP)
Although many countries do not recognize U.S. driver’s licenses, most countries accept an International Driving Permit (IDP). An IDP can be obtained in the U.S. at any branch of the American Automobile Association (AAA), upon presentation of a valid U.S. license, two passport-size photos, and fee:

Should you rent a car while abroad, be sure to check with the rental agency regarding regulations governing crossing international borders in a rented car. Some rental car agencies also require the driver to be at least 25 years old.
